Downtown Prince George Needs Your Support!

The Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction is proposing to re-locate from 1445 10th Avenue to 490 Brunswick Street in Prince George’s downtown.

Although the services offered by the Ministry are valuable to the community as a whole, we are concerned because to date they have not provided:

  • A safe environment for surrounding businesses, their customers and the public.
  • Protection of the surrounding properties from vandalism and crime.
  • Supervision and management of the negative behaviours of its clientele.
  • An inclusive environment that supports positive interactions for those with mental health and addictions.

The proposed new location at 490 Brunswick Street is in closer proximity to a daycare, a senior centre, a church, service based businesses and other community retail. We know that this location is not appropriate for the services offered by the Ministry.

The Downtown Prince George BIA has attempted to engage the ministry in a more collaborative approach to determine a better location for their services in the downtown without success. Therefore, we have no other option than to initiate this petition to urge the Province to re-consider this relocation. Please support our efforts by joining our petition.
